While the big boats will be flying across the Detroit River a few weeks earlier (July 13th-15th) in the 103rd running of the APBA Gold Cup, Oakland County has it’s own championship power boat race, The 13th Annual "Quake on the Lake", on Pontiac Lake, July 21st-22nd.
While
the speeds reached are well over 150 mph, and with some of the best
powerboats pilots in the country driving, you know the races will be
very exciting. However, one of the most important things to remember is the main purpose of the event that is to raise money for various charities, including The Rainbow Connection, which grants wishes to Michigan children with terminal or life threatening illnesses..
There will also be fun things for the whole family to do, from concerts (including one featuring Rock n Roll legend Mitch Ryder) to viewing classic cars and hot rods from the Flaming Pistons Car Club, and of course a Family Fun Zone, featuring summertime fun for kids of all ages,
with games and bouncers of all kinds.
Here are a few photos from a past Quake on the Lake races.
