All About "Around the Town"

This blog contains metro area events that either: we've attended in the past, would like to attend, plan to attend or just sound interesting. It is not  a complete event calendar or focused on only events taking place in Oakland County. Events listed here may or may not have endorsement of the Oakland County government.  Read more.

Since my last post was on late 1800's baseball, another bat and ball sport that is being showcased in the area is cricket.

cricket While it has less in common to American baseball then the game of rounders, cricket, has been played for a few centuries more, and still is today, the national sport of England. While details on the game and how it is played would take a bit more space then we are permitted here, the wikipedia has a detailed entry on Cricket, which you can read here.

The 8th US Corporate Cricket Championship will be held on August 7th and 8th at Bloomer Park, in Rochester Hills and Lyon Oaks in Wixom.
The Finals will be held on the August 8th at Bloomer Park in Rochester Hills at 2 p.m.

Cricket teams from area corporations including teams from GM, Ford and Chrysler will be participating in the tournament, which uses the T20 format (which is a shorter game then a standard cricket match).

For more information about the event, you can visit the Michigan Cricket Association website.

Dear All,

The tournament featured Nine teams, one each from Altair, BCBS, Caterpillar, Chrysler, Daimler, Ford, GM, HFHS and NYX. Altair was the main sponsor while Beta CAE was another prominent sponsor.

Caterpillar beat Ford in the finals to win their first USCCC championship. Congratulations to Caterpillar !

Caterpillar had beaten Chrysler in the first Semi Finals while defending champions Ford had beaten Daimler in the second Semi Finals.

About 200 people watched the finals in Bloomer Park. More than 100 viewers watched the game live (streaming) on internet.

Next year's USCCC may feature 12 teams. For any information related to USCCC visit www.MichCA.org
