
On a metro waterway near you, APBA (American Power Boat Association) power boat racers will be giving boat racing fans a action-packed weekend with some of the fastest powerboats in the world.
At Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area the “Quake on the Lake” APBA Inboard Hydroplane Races and Eastern Divisional Championships will be held July 17-19, 2009. Pontiac Lake is one of the fastest one-mile race courses in the country as 15 American Power Boat Association records have been set in 5 different racing classes over the 10 year history of the race.
Over the years, the "Quake on the Lake" has given thousands of dollars to various charities through this awesome fund-raising event. Proceeds from this fund-raiser directly benefit The Rainbow Connection. The Rainbow Connection makes the special wishes of Michigan children with life-threatening or terminal illnesses come true.

Also, on the Detroit River, the 2009 Detroit APBA Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the APBA Gold Cup is the oldest active trophy in all of motorsports. The trophy was first awarded in 1904 with a Gold Cup race being run on the Detroit River was in 1916).
