All About "Around the Town"

The Around the Town blog contains metro area events that either we've (the bloggers) attended in the past, would like to attend, plan to attend or just sound interesting. It is not  a complete event calender or is focused on only events that take place  in the county. Read more.

Enjoy two pow wow's right here in Oakland County!

Join us for the 2nd annual Wewene Mawjeshnok Powwow, on September 13 and 14, 2008 at Oakland County's Groveland Oaks Park. Dance competitions, traders, and native foods are just a few of the things you will find at this family friendly event. For more information see the event flyer at the South Eastern Michigan Indians website.

Native Americans representing the People of the Three Fires will gather to celebrate the customs and culture of the indigenous Michigan Indians – Ottawa, Ojibwe and Potawatomi – at the 16th Annual Native American Festival and Mini Pow Wow. This event is held indoors  on November 8 and 9, 2008 at the Southfield Pavilion located at 26000 Evergreen Road. For more information and hours visit Metro Parent magazine.

Pow Wow's are unique opportunities for people of all ages to experience Native American culture and traditions.
I'm looking forward to my annual treat of fry bread and Navajo tacos.
(for traditional and contemporary Native American recipes visit the Gathering of Nations pow-wow site).
